Fourth day of the Summer School 2010

After another cool night everybody started freshly in a new badminton day. Peter, Kenn and Fran introduced the coaches to net play. And the players practiced defence offence combinations. It was another smooth start and all participants are more and more growing together.

As always the second morning session was the topic of the coach education for everybody in the big hall. Everybody was motivated and pushed themselves to profit of all the input. After the lunch again the small group sessions the coaches holding their groups-training. Everything as now already usual! And as the temperature was rising again, the connection between all were also rising.

But Instead of having dinner at Sacre Coeur we all together went to the local swimming pool. It was just opened for all Summer School participants. As it just had the right temperature to enjoy a swim in the evening. The local organizer had the great idea to do a barbecue there and everybody enjoyed it. In the end some of the newcomers got their unexpected baptism. But this nice and relaxing ending of the day had again a sudden end as the mosquitoes just arrived on time to send everybody home at 21.15 .....

Some impressions of the different participants:

Today we learned a lot of new technique in offence and defence. After defence we made net play and I feel this helped me a lot. In the evening, we went to the local swimming pool where we had a barbecue. This was great fun as I met many new friends.

Today was a very enjoyable day. It was enjoyable because we were able to practice and learn new techniques in our net play in a fun and friendly atmosphere. I found Kenn to be a very good coach and learned a lot from him. I also met a lot of new people due to the policy of having to train with a player from a different country for each exercise.

The set topic for day four was net play and variation of net. Coaches were taught in the morning the technique that the players would later train on. Huge concentrations on technical issues were addressed on this topic. Later the coaches worked with their own group of players and had a chance to address their weaknesses and set individual drills to each player. This days training served in improving the player’s core game and helped to make a start in addressing the individual player’s needs.

After some days in a very warm Austria, very similar to my ‘mother country’, we had the chance to train at least in the morning in a fresh and usual ‘Central Europe’ temperature. Anyway we were ready to have the walk o the small coaching hall into town, for me the first time. It was good to see how all coaches were ready and exciting for one of the most famous topics ‘NET PLAY’. After some physical discussions about the rotation of the shuttle, Peter and Kenn went straight to a successful spin, held lifts and combinations.
Running off – to be on time!!! As we had our staff meeting, planning Wednesday – the ‘special day’. To the following session, straight to the hall, and it was just as exciting as we expected it to be.
A new queue for the lunch and having again a sunny Pressbaum, we went through the two shifts of technical training, where the players sweat for sure!!!
As a great job has been done during the day, we had the award to go swimming. Arriving at the nice public swimming pool of Pressbaum that was just opened for our big pleasure. We had fun a great afternoon swim and a lovely barbecue. As long as the staff-coaches got their own way, Lina dancing over the water and Anders and myself getring an awaking SPLASH from our ‘SIESTA’. Big Peter was one of the most actives being around … and the way back to the hotel was ‘QUICK’ for all of us having the ‘Austrian mosquito army’ always ‘running’ behind us …
