2008 Summer School: 27th edition from 12 to 19 July in Warswaw, Poland.

Poland’s capital city Warsaw is hosting this year’s European Badminton Summer School. The Summer School is Badminton Europe’s flagship development activity and involves an intensive training camp for junior players together with a Coach Education course. 20 European nations are attending this year’s activity.

The 52 players attending this year’s European Badminton Summer School are being treated to superb conditions as they are training at the new Ursynow Arena in Warsaw. The facility has a fantastic setup creating the perfect training environment for the junior players.

On Sunday the players were divided in six groups and competed in a team competition. An individual tournament will take place on Friday, the final day of the Summer School. Many different activities, in addition to badminton training, are planned for the participants throughout the week.

The players and coaches are being trained by nine staff. They are Alan McIlvain (Scotland), Peter Mouritsen (Denmark), Kristiina Danskanen (Finland), Tomasz Mendrek (Czech Republic), Vlada Cherniavskaya (Belarus), Zhou Junling (China), Kim Ji Hyun (Korea), An Soenens (Belgium) and Fran Dacal (Spain).

A singles competition was organised on the final afternoon with Sonia Olariu of Romania winning the girl’s tournament and Rhys Pritchard from Wales winning the boy’s event.
