The World Class Elite Scholarships focus on supporting identified needs in the high performance setup of individual players, who has shown potential of winning medals at future World Championships and/or Olympic Games.

Eligible players for a Scholarship

-Only European players, who are in “good standing” with their Federation.
-Player(s) who currently ranks Top 30 in Singles or Top 25 in the doubles on the BWF world ranking (at the time submitting the application), but also demonstrating an ability to win medals at a World Championships or Olympic Games.
-Player, who is part of a strong badminton programme or individual project, that currently ranks outside Top 30 in Singles or Top 25 in the doubles on the BWF world ranking (at the time submitting the application) but has beaten world top 10 players or has demonstrated a plausible potential to beat top 10 players/pairs in the world within the period 2023-2026 and thus capable of winning medals at future World Championships and/or Olympic Games.
-Individual players (single players or one player in a double) and double pairs are eligible for scholarships.
-The players supported with a scholarship must demonstrate a relevant need for support that can significantly increase and help their ability to compete for medals at future World championships and/or Olympic Games within the period 2023-2028.
-Players with a documented high income are not eligible for a scholarship.

Scholarships within the following areas is considered relevant:
• Extra or special coach
• Extra training camps
• Extra Sparring players
• Extra Tournaments
• Expert services (Physical trainer, Sports Psychologist, Dietitian etc.)
• Other areas can be considered where support logic has been provided.

Financial aspect
A total of 50.000 euro is allocated for World Class Elite – Scholarships for top players and top talents. Each scholarship consists of up to maximum: 20.000 euro. 
There is maximum one scholarship per Member. A second scholarship to a Member can be considered in exceptional circumstances where there is unused budget.

Advertisement
The players must make themselves available for the Badminton Europe Communication team for interviews, photos and promotion activities in general related to the project. These activities shall normally be carried out remotely. 

The player must make one spot available for advertisement on their clothing for a sponsor of the project/Badminton Europe. In case all spots for advertisement are already used, the player must inform Badminton Europe, when a spot for advertisement becomes available. The sponsor of the project cannot conflict with the players current sponsor(s) and must comply with BWF Competition Regulations on clothing for players during a tournament.  

Badminton Europe will cover all costs related to the sponsor advert. 

Application
The application for the scholarship should document the eligibility of the applicant, the area of support and why the scholarship can make a difference for the applicant.

The scholarship is valid for 1 year and covers the period: 01.04.2023 - 31.03.2024.
The Member will apply for the scholarship on behalf of the player and bear responsibility for the fundings granted.

Players receiving a scholarship will have to attend and assist at Badminton Europe World Class Junior training camps (U17, U19) or RSL BEC Summer School or other Badminton Europe activities up to a maximum of three days (four trainings). The cost associated with the participation in Badminton Europe activities will be covered by Badminton Europe.

Application process:
-Deadline to submit application and relevant documents: 10 March 2023.
-Announcement of players receiving a scholarship: 31 March 2023.
-The application is addressed to Badminton Europe and is processed by a panel of five members from Badminton Europe High Performance Commission. Conflicted members will be removed from the evaluation process on the specific application.
