Regional Project in Iceland

The North Atlantic Camp for the U13 to U17 age category, a Regional Project by Badminton Europe, has been held in Iceland from 22 to 29 July. The camp took place in Akranes, a small town with only 6500 inhabitans and about 30 min. drive from the Icelandic capital Reykjavik.

24 players, born '97-'02, from Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland participated in the camp while 9 coaches took part in a training course. The sessions lasted 1,5 hours in the morning and 2x 1,5 hours in the afternoon. After dinner there were all kinds of social activities like swimming, football, playing cards, hiking, bingo, barbeque and more.

One day there was a trip to Borgarfjordur, hiking volcano Grabrok, seeing waterfall Glanni and a place called Paradis. On Saturday there was also a tournament for the participating players and the local players from Akranes and Reykjavik participated as well.

"The main goal for the participants was to have the opportunity to learn to work in a different way and get input and feedback from other players and coaches. The players connected and had fun in practice but also in free time. The location and the  the facilities in Akranes were really good", said Anders Thomsen, the chief coach, whose main responsibility was to train the players and guide the participating coaches.

"Everybody had a very good time, a great badminton training and got new friends from other countries", Thomsen added.
