COMEBA camp in Malta

28 February 2011 - John Attard

From 26 November to 3 December 2010 a COMEBA badminton camp was held in Malta. Through the support of Badminton Europe about 17 young players and 5 coaches could experience a full week of badminton.

You can read a detailed discription of the Badminton Association of Malta below.

This initiative was part of the Regional Project funding. Badminton Europe is supporting its Member Associations to promote and develop badminton in their country. But not only in the single countries but also over the boundaries of their countries through international cooperations.

Report by John Attard, General Secretary, Badminton Malta.

Danish international high-performance coach Dennis Christensen is presently in Malta conducting a seven-day Training Camp.

The training sessions are being held every day, mainly at the Cottonera Sports Complex (Cospicua) but also at St. Aloysius College (B’Kara). Each training session lasts two hours.

Every session integrates theoretical and practical aspects; in this way, the participants can assimilate the latest technical and tactical knowhow about the game.

During this intensive training course, Christensen is focussing particularly on footwork and on deceptive strokes.

During his stay, Christensen will also be visiting several local schools in order to promote Badminton among the students as well as to assist and train as necessary the respective PE teachers.

During his professional career so far, Christensen has worked both in his own country as well as in Sweden, Italy and Switzerland. He was also the national coach of both the Italian and Swiss national teams.

Badminton Malta (BM) expressed its satisfaction at the high level of training which Christensen is providing to the participants in this Training Camp. It stressed its constant commitment to provide its better players and coaches with future similar opportunities for the further development of their playing and coaching standard.

BM also expressed its gratitude to COMEBA as well as to Badminton Europe for the valuable support provided in the successful organisation of this Camp.
