Badminton Europe's Summer School 2017 kicked off yesterday in Slovenia.

The Summer School started Saturday 8 July and will end on Friday 14 July. BEC Summer School is a summer 'camp' for coaches and players where coaches will receive coach education and Shuttle Time classes, while players will get daily training.

For the third consecutive year, the Summer School takes place in the hall of Terme Olimia in Podčetrtek, Slovenia. The weather has been very nice and hot so the participants can look forward to working hard in the summer heat.

Tom Causer, Fran Dacal, Vlada Cherniavskaya, Dolores Marco, Javier Martínez Melgarejo, Maja Kersnik, Wojtek Szkudlarczyk and Jeroen van Dijk are working as staff coaches during the week. They are responsible for the overall organisation of the Summer School for both coaches and players, and had a meeting during the morning to schedule and organise the week of training, coach education and other social activities.

Jeroen van Dijk, former BEC manager, oversees the staff coaches and the Summer School. As the development manager in the BEC office he has been taking part in the Summer School since 2013, but has now taken on the new role as head coach at the Centre of Excellence in Holbaek, Denmark.

At 7:30 PM, coaches, staff coaches and players, had an informative meeting where the full schedule of the week was presented. After a grand tour of the facilities in the hall, it was time to retrieve to the hotel rooms and rest as the first “real” day of the 2017 BEC Summer School will begin the next day.
